Friend of the blog and brilliant neurofeminist researcher Rebecca Jordan-Young asks people to visit this petition site in support of her distinguished colleagues Carol Vance and Kim Hopper. That bell tolling you hear, where if you don't bring in 80% of your salary in grants, you're fired even after 25+ years of superb work? It's for you too, soon enough.

I’m broadly sympathetic to the general predicament (not being that far myself), but the details I get of this case, mainly from the Kim Hopper synopsis, are curious. He says this: “My major salary support comes from my FT research appointment elsewhere, which is also where my grant support is housed”. In other words, he’s full-time faculty at another university, and is bringing in grants for that university. If that’s the case, it’s not that hard to imagine circumstances, even pretty reasonable ones, in which the secondary institution would not be that happy with the arrangement.
